Choteč lies in the Praha-západ District, about 17 km southwest of central Prague. It is about 5 km northwest of Černošice.

The name Choteč is recorded as the name of a stream as early as 1115; the village itself is documented from 1336. The Baroque Church of St Catherine on a rise above Choteč was built from 1697 to 1699 to a design by J. B. Mathey and is surrounded by a small cemetery. Statues of St Catherine and St John of Nepomuk dating from 1764 also stand in the village; remains of a fortified manor survive by the former farmyard.
