Jenštejn lies about 16 km north-east of central Prague. The municipality comprises the parts Jenštejn and Dehtáry. It originated as a settlement beneath a water castle.

The ruins of Jenštejn Castle date from the 14th century. Since the 2025 season, the municipality has owned and operated them. The top of the castle tower serves as a viewpoint.
